A Place for Community, Culture, and Gathering

The Jagarairee Larry Lanley Memorial Festival Grounds is a significant cultural space for the Lardil, Yangkaal, Kaiadilt, and Gangalidda people. Managed by Gulf Regional Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (GRAC), the Festival Grounds serve as a vital place for community gatherings, cultural celebrations, ceremonies, and important events such as sorry business, community feeds, and cultural performances.

GRAC is the agent and Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) of the Native Title holders and legal land owner as trustee of these grounds, is committed to ensuring that the space is used respectfully and appropriately, in line with the customs and traditions of the community.

Ongoing Improvements

GRAC is actively working on refurbishing the Festival Grounds to enhance its facilities, making it more accessible and functional for all types of gatherings. These upgrades aim to provide a safe, welcoming, and well-equipped space for the community.

Booking the Festival Grounds

The festival grounds are available for use by community members, local organisations, and external organisations for cultural and community-focused events. All bookings must comply with the conditions below.

General Conditions (Applies to All Users)

  • Must respect the cultural significance of the grounds and the traditions of the community.
  • Strictly no alcohol, drugs, or disrespectful behaviour.
  • The grounds must be left clean and undamaged after use.
  • Events must align with community values and purposes (e.g., cultural, educational, or community-building activities).
  • Users must take responsibility for the conduct and safety of all attendees.

Additional Conditions for Organisations & Service Providers

  • Must provide Public Liability Insurance to cover all attendees and organisers and to protect GRAC from any liabilities.
  • Must engage with GRAC before promoting or advertising any events held on the grounds.
  • Must acknowledge and follow any cultural protocols advised by GRAC.
  • Required to make a cultural contribution or community benefit arrangement as part of the booking approval process.

  • GRAC RNTBC reserves the right to decline applications that do not align with these values or fail to meet the necessary conditions. Strictly no alcohol or disrespectful behaviour is permitted on the grounds. Additional conditions may apply to external organisations operating on the island.
  • Public Liability Insurance is required for all events to ensure the safety of attendees, organisers, and GRAC. If you are an unincorporated association and/or do not have Public Liability Insurance, please contact GRAC about your event to discuss options.
