Why this matters for Mornington Island
Right now, diesel generators power Mornington Island — a supply that is expensive, unreliable, and polluting for our community and Country. Diesel costs continue to rise, and the current grid can't support much more rooftop solar without becoming unstable.
Supported by Mirabou Energy and funded through the Australian Government's First Nations Clean Energy Advice Grants, GRAC PBC is exploring whether a solar farm and community battery could deliver cleaner, more reliable power — and open the door for more households to install their own rooftop solar in future.
This is a planning and feasibility study only. No infrastructure is being built and no decisions have been made. Every step forward will happen through community consultation.
Consultation, not decisions
You will be consulted before any decisions are made.
You can say yes, no, or wait — it is always your choice.
This project will not go ahead without community support.
